This six-week course is designed for students who have had some experience of handbuilding pottery and understand the basics of creating secure joins, working with clay at plastic and leatherhard stages, and managing drying.

Class Details

Continuing Handbuilding will focus on building strong foundational clay skills including:

  • Building functional ware that holds up to daily use and is fit for purpose
  • Surface decoration - creating texture with stamps, rollers, texture mats, and carving tools
  • Planning and timing more complex handbuilt clay projects, including choosing appropriate handbuilding techniques (slab-building, coiling, pinching, hollowing-out etc)
  • Creating and using templates for slab-building

This course is ideal for those who have taken our ‘Intro to Ceramics’ course and would like to focus on developing handbuilding skills in a small group, or those who have done some handbuilding in the past and would like a refresher.  

The price includes materials and firing fees.
