This six-week course is suitable for beginning pottery students and those who have taken our Pottery 101 course and would like to deepen their focus on handbuilding techniques.
Pottery 102: Handbuilding will focus on building strong foundational clay skills including:
- The basics of creating secure joins, working with clay at plastic and leatherhard stages, and managing drying.
- Building functional ware that holds up to daily use and is fit for purpose
- Surface decoration - creating texture with stamps, rollers, texture mats, and carving tools
- Planning and timing more complex handbuilt clay projects, including choosing appropriate handbuilding techniques (slab-building, coiling, pinching, hollowing-out etc)
- Creating and using templates for slab-building
The price includes materials and firing fees.
